Pushing the limits now in Stockholm!

2009-11-24

The Kvinna till Kvinna Foundations exhibition Pushing the limits is now open for visitors in Stockholm at Stockholms Läns museum. Pushing the limits is based on stories from young women in war and conflict affected areas. At the opening on November 19 the Kvinna till Kvinna Foundations Secretary General Lena Ag welcomed the attending and the Serbian women’s rights and LGBT rights activist Jelena Djordevic talked about activism and the importance of security for the activists.
– We activists are struggling to make the world better, for people to be able to enjoy their human rights. People should be happy over that, not indifferent or even filled with hatred.

Pushing the limits is about activism, power and equality. Young and engaged activists from Georgia, Israel and Palestine talk about the conditions for young women and how they would like to change society. Which possibilities do they have to break down stereotypes and prejudices?

All who take part in Pushing the limits are activists. They run therapy groups and gynaecological clinics, are engaged in refugee issues and hold meetings for people across conflict borders. In their organisations they work for sustainable peace, for women’s right to participate in peace talks. They fight for their evident right to be a part of society and to take part in formulating the future.

– I think the international community should support young women’s commitment. We who are young today will lead the struggle in 30 years time, says Yana Knopova a peace activist in Israel, one of the participants in the exhibition.

Pushing the limits first opened at the Världskulturmuseum in Gothenburg in September 2008. The exibition has had tens of thousands of visitors, and besides Gothenburg been shown in Umeå and Örnsköldsvik. Pushing the limits will stay in Stockholm until February 7 and Kvinna till Kvinna is arranging workshops, seminars and film screenings at the museum. You can visit the exibition on it’s website where you also can read a blog written by young women activists from conflict areas.
